Hyper Converged Infrastructure
Cisco HyperFlex includes an integrated network fabric, powerful data optimization, and unified management that bring the full potential of hyperconvergence for a wider range of workloads and use cases. The HyperFlex solution is faster to deploy, simpler to manage, and easier to scale than the current generation of systems. It is ready to provide you with a unified pool of infrastructure resources to power applications as your business needs dictate.
HyperFlex offers the first hyperconverged platform that is designed with an end-to-end software-defined infrastructure approach that eliminates the compromises found in first-generation products. We combine software-defined computing in the form of Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) servers with Intel® Xeon® processors, softwaredefined storage with powerful new Cisco HyperFlex HX Data Platform™ Software, and software-defined networking with Cisco® unified fabric that will integrate smoothly with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI™). Networking is essential in hyperconverged systems because the storage platform performance, ease of automation, and network security depend on it. The result is a preintegrated cluster with a single management point (Figure 1) that is easy to order and can be up and securely running in an hour or less.
Cisco UCS provides a single point of connectivity and hardware management that integrates Cisco HyperFlex HX-Series nodes (with high disk capacity) and Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers (with high computing capacity) into a single unified cluster. We give you the capability to choose the balance of CPU and disk storage that is right for your applications, enabling you to optimize your Cisco HyperFlex System with more choices than any other vendor offers. Incremental scalability allows you to start small and scale as your needs grow. Cisco HyperFlex Systems deliver all the cost savings and performance advantages of Cisco UCS while enabling you to reap the benefits of the broad Cisco UCS management partner ecosystem.
The Cisco HyperFlex HX Data Platform controller combines the entire cluster’s solid-state disk (SSD) drives and spinning disks (harddisk drives [HDDs]) into a single distributed, multitier, object-based data store. It delivers high availability through redundancy, efficient use of storage through inline deduplication and compression, and other features you expect from enterprise storage systems such as snapshots, thin provisioning, and smart cloning. Cisco HyperFlex Systems are designed to support virtualized, containerized, and, baremetal environments, with VMware vSphere supported at first customer shipment (FCS)
HyperFlex meets an unfulfilled need in today’s business computing environment and completes the Cisco product portfolio. With Cisco UCS management, you can manage and deploy hyperconverged environments exactly like your other Cisco UCS environments—including your remote- and branch-office, enterprise computing, big data, and web-scale bare-metal environments. Applications dictate architecture, and our range of offerings changes the relationship between disk storage and CPU capacity to create effective solutions for every computing need. Cisco HyperFlex Systems create a tightly integrated relationship between CPU capacity and SSD and disk storage, providing excellent performance.
